The Challenge at Manele

Today we golfed at the golf course called the "Challenge at Manele Bay". We we practising before our tee time of 9:00 am and here is a picture of Pu'u Pehe commonly known as Sweetheart Rock. It's just around the cove of Hulopoe Bay where we go for our beach days.

These are two pictures of the Sweetheart Rock. I couldn't get enough of the views. This is a stunningly beautiful golf course These pictures do not do it justice, but will they will give you an idea of what it's like.

This is hole number 17, a par 3 right on the cliff's edge.

Martin is teeing off and does make the green. We weren't playing that well as we hadn't swung a club since October, that's our excuse anyways! But we sure enjoyed the scenery!

The golf course is situated above the Manele Bay Resort so the palm trees on the right of the above picture is the coastline of the resort property.

These pictures demonstrate the rugged coastline. It was so beautiful!

I raced across the fairway because I saw the sail boat on the left side of the Sweetheart Rock and thought what a great picture if I could get it in between the rocks Because I was in a hurry I had the camera on the wrong setting so I missed it, but this view will do.

From this hole we got a great show of the beach area of the resort on Hulopoe Bay. Where the white umbrellas are is exclusive to the resort guests and farther down there is a park and that is open to the public.

Martin is just going into the sand to make his shot and this bird flew out of nowhere and got in the picture. I couldn't have planned that one!

You can see some condominiums above. We had considered booking one of these as a vacation rental before deciding to stay at Koele Lodge. Just as well that we didn't as they were expensive and too big for just two of us.

This is the view from hole number 14 looking back towards the club house.

Here is the signature hole of the course and where Bill Gates was married. It' later on in the afternoon now and our second time around the course. Your green fees covered as many holes as you'd like, so we played 34 holes before our cart ran out of battery power!

A view from hole #12 looking down as the ocean crashes on the rocks below.

Here's my turn at this gorgeous hole.

This was so amazing we couldn't get enough pictures. We had so much fun riding around in our golf cart. There were plenty of humpback whales and dolphins to watch as we played the coures and the spectacular views made it hard to concentrate at times. So cool...golf? oh yes let's play golf...somebody pinch me!

We rented our clubs which turned out to be really nice. They were Callaway's and for the most part they worked. At least none were thrown over the cliff in an angry fit, close.. but you just had to take a deep breath and gaze out at the scenery that surrounded you and reminded you of how fortunate we were just to be there to play this game :)

This is the last hole we played as the sun was beginning to set. The sun rays looked so beautiful and almost spiritual through the clouds as the light glistened on the ocean below. We were tired at the end of the rounds but we felt we really got our money's worth and enjoyed an amazing golf experience on this little island.
